Daata: India’s Most Renowned Family and Marriage Drama

In Sultan Ahmed’s 1989 Hindi-language action drama film Daata, Shammi Kapoor, Padmini Kolhapure, Suresh Oberoi, Supriya Pathak, Amrish Puri, Ranjeet, Deepak Parashar, Shafi Inamdar, Saeed Jaffrey, and Bharat Bhushan feature in Sultan Ahmed’s 1989 Hindi-language action drama film Daata. In big cities, this film was mediocre, but it was a smash hit in small towns and northern India.

Mithun Chakraborty’s performance in “Daata” is one of his best to date.

    Plot of the Daata

Dinanath is an Indian schoolteacher who lives with his wife, Kamla, daughter Shanti, and son Kundan in a tiny town.

He has written a book called “Daata” in which he refers to all of the world’s major religions, and he has been recognised for his contribution by none other than India’s President, Raja Suraj Singh, through the Ministry of Education.

Thereafter, he arranges for Shanti’s marriage to Gopaldas’ son; when Gopaldas wants dowry, he declares that he cannot afford it and that he has given Shanti enough wealth and jewelry.

The gold is revealed to be phoney, so the wedding is called off, Shanti commits suicide, and Dinanath dies of a heart attack. His reputation has been tainted, and no one wants to come near him.

As a result, Kundan chooses to assassinate Gopaldas’ son in order to avenge his father’s death; as a result, he becomes a robber, joins a band of other bandits, and sets out to assassinate Gopaldas.

Is this what Dinanath had predicted for his son: a life as a robber and death at the hands of the cops?
