K. K. Shailaja Bio
K. K. Shailaja is an Indian politician who has served as former Health Minister of Kerala who belongs from the Kannur district. Currently, she is serving as a member of the Legislative Assembly and she represents the Mattannur constituency in the 5th Kerala Legislative Assembly. Moreover, she is also a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist).
Early life and Education
She was born on 20 November 1956 in Mattanur, Kannur, Kerala. Currently, she is 65 years old as of 2021. Her father’s name was K.K. Kunthan and her mother’s name was K.K. Shantha.
She has earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Pazhassi Raja N.S.S. college in Mattanur. And in 1980, she obtained a Bachelor of Education degree from Visvesvarayya college. Before entering into politics, she served as a high school Physics teacher at Sivapuram high school in Kannur. After 7 years of service, she retired in 2004, and then she stepped into politics.
Political career
She has been elected as CPI Central Committee Member in the 22nd Congress of the CPI which was held in 2018 at Hyderabad, Telangana. In 1996, she represented Kuthuparamba and in 2006 she represented Peravoor and both these are in Kannur district in the Kerala Legislative Assembly.
From 2016 to 2021, she served as Minister for Health and Family Welfare in the Government of Kerala. As a Health Minister, she was known for her unwavering commitment and strong work ethic.
She is well known for her leadership during the time of the Nipah and Covid-19 outbreak and it was highly appreciated. She received international attention for her leadership in tackling the Covid-19 situation in Kerala.
Personal life
On 19 April 1981, she married K. Bhaskaran and they have two sons named Lasith and Shobhith. She loves to read and listen to music.
She has written two books named Indian Var tham anavum Sthreesa mooha vum and China: Rashtram, Rashtreeyam, Kazh chakal.

Awards
In June 2020, she was honored for her efforts and services to tackle the coronavirus pandemic by the United Nations.
