    Krishna Bose was a Member of Parliament in India, a social worker, and an educationalist. She served as presiding officer of the Parliamentary Committee on External Affairs in India that oversees the conduct of India’s policy.     Early Life of Krishna Bose

    She was an eminent author, parliamentarian, and teacher. Educated at Calcutta University, she taught for forty years at City College (for women) in Calcutta, where she held the position of Head of the Department of English. She even served in the college as a principal for eight years.

    A Renowned Author of Several Books

    She was a leading modern author of Calcutta with several books and articles. Her books include:

    Political Career

    In the year 1996, Krishna Bose took part in the general election from public office as a candidate of the Indian National Congress for the position of a Member of Parliament, Jadavpur Lok Sabha constituency in West Bengal.

    In 1998 and 1999, she again was elected for general elections as a candidate of the Trinamool Congress, in which she was a prominent leader.

    Krishna Bose was active in public work. She was the President of the Trust of the Institute of Child Health, Calcutta. She was also a Chair of the Council of the Netaji Research Bureau and the President of Vivek Chetana. It was a non-profit organization for underprivileged women and children. Apart from these all, she was even a member of the international P.E.N.

    Krishna Bose: The Traveller     

    Krishna Bose had traveled to different countries which include Asia, Europe, North America, and the Middle East.

    She was married to Dr. Sisir Kumar Bose. He was a prominent part of the Indian independence movement and a top-notch pediatrician of post-independence India. Krishna’s elder son Sugata Bose is a Gardiner Professor of History at Harvard University. Her younger son, Sumantra Bose, is a Professor of International and Comparative Politics at the London School of Economics.
