    Sabitha Indra Reddy bio

    Sabitha Indra Reddy full name Patlolla Sabitha Indra Reddy serves as an Indian politician. Currently, she is working as a minister of state for education of Telangana and a Member of the Telangana Legislative Assembly from the Maheshwaram constituency. In 2019 she became a member of the TRS party.  She is the first woman Home Minister of Andhra Pradesh after Y. S. Rajase khara Reddy. In addition to this, she was also the first woman minister for Telangana and has been a member of the legislative assembly of Andhra Pradesh Pradesh two times.

    Early life

    Reddy was born on 5 may 1963 in Kota Baspaly, Tandur. She is the eldest daughter of  G Mahipal Reddy and Venkatamma. She has a sister and a brother. 

    In the beginning, she completed her education till middle school in Tandur, and then for higher studies, she moved to Hyderabad. Later, she completed her schooling at Bhagya Memorial Girls High School at Chandel Ghat. Further, she studied B. Sc from Sri Vani women’s Degree College in Hyderabad.

    Personal life

    In 1954, right after her education, at the age of 20, she got married to P. Indra Reddy who was the Home Minister in N.T. Rama Rao’s cabinet at that time. They have three sons. She met her husband through a relative when he was working as the Law College President at Osmania University. He was a very popular leader in Telangana. In 2000, he died in a road accident and at the age of 37, she became a widow. Then she stepped into politics.

    Coincidentally, Sabitha and her husband both have been Home Minister for the state of Andhra Pradesh and this makes them the only couple in India to hold the same position.

    Political career

    Earlier, from 2004 to 2009, she served as Minister of Mines and Geology. She became the first female Home Minister of a state in the nation. Moreover, she is an undefeated four-time MLA. She was elected twice from Che vella from 2000 to 2009 and twice from Maheshwar am. From 2009 to 2013, she served as Minister of Home, Jail, and Disaster management. In April 2013, she submitted her resignation letter from the cabinet when the CBI named her as an accused in the illegal investment case of Y. S. Jagan mohan Reddy. On 18 September 2019, she became Minister of Education for the Government of Telangana.
