Sharada is a well-known Indian actress and politician. She predominantly works in Malayalam and Telugu movies. She won National Awards three times. She is also popularly known as Urvasi Sharada as the National Film Award for Best Actress was officially designated on her name as the Urvashi Award. She has earned the NTR National Award for her contributions to Indian cinema by the government of Andhra Pradesh.

Early life and Career Beginning
She was born Saraswati Devi on 25 June 1945 in Tenali, Madras Presidency, British India. Currently, she is 76 years old as of 2021. Her father Venkateswara Rao and mother Satyavathi Devi belonged to a family of agriculturalists. She has a sibling named Mohan Rao. At a very young age, she started to learn dance.
She began her career in acting in Telugu theater when she grew up. She played a minor role in the Telugu film Kanyasulkam which was her first debut in cinema but later she returned to the theater.
Film Career
In 1959, she started her career as Sharada because there were few other actors in the industry with the name Saraswati. She got her first major break in the movie IddaruMitrulu with Akkineni Nageswara Rao. This was a major hit and she got attention for her role and thus got chances from other Tamil and Malayalam films as well.
In 1965, she took a major step by changing her career in the Malayalam film industry. After that, she predominantly worked in Malayalam films and acted in only a few other languages. She has done a lot of movies and won many awards for her roles.
After that in 1993, she became selective with her films and she committed to only a few films.
Political career
After doing some choosy performances, she stepped into politics. She contested as a member of parliament on Telugu Desam Party ticket which was from her native town of Tenali. Although, she had a successful cinematic career she was not clicked in politics. So she was a member of the Telugu Desam Party from the Tenali constituency.
Personal life
She married Chalam who was a Telugu actor but they got divorced later. Currently, she is living with the family of her brother in Chennai.

Awards
She has won three National Film awards for Thulabharam, Swayamvaram, and Nimajjanam for Best Actress. She won Tamil Nadu State Film Award for her contributions to Tamil cinema. Shivani Kerala State Film Award for Best Actress in Thriveni & Thara. She has also won Filmfare Awards south and Nandi awards. In 2020, she won the Vanitha film award as a lifetime achievement award.
